Bladder cancer
Bladder cancer is one of the most common types of cancer of the urinary tract and is the fourth most frequent tumor in our country. The bladder is a hollow muscular organ located in the lower abdomen, responsible for storing urine.
Most cases of bladder cancer are detected in early stages, when treatment is highly effective. If we manage to diagnose bladder cancer at an early stage, we can offer the patient curative treatments in most cases, maintaining a good quality of life.
Bladder cancer is a complex disease that requires a multidisciplinary approach and the use of advanced surgical techniques for its effective treatment. At our center, GUA Urology and Andrology, we are proud to have the latest technology in robotic surgery, which allows us to offer our patients more precise and advanced treatments.
In our center, we have the best technology for the early detection of bladder cancer, such as the high definition cystoscopy technique, as well as for its treatment, such as the technique known as transurethral resection of the bladder (TUR of the bladder) and cystectomy with robotic surgery.
Symptoms
Some signs and symptoms of bladder cancer include the following:
- Presence of blood in the urine (hematuria), which may give the urine a bright red or brown color; in some cases, the urine may appear normal and blood is detected only through laboratory analysis.
- Frequent need to urinate
- Pain when urinating
- Back pain
Treatments
Initially, bladder cancer can be treated minimally invasively through the urethra using the technique of transurethral resection of the bladder (TUR bladder). However, when the cancer invades the bladder muscle, it is called muscle-invasive bladder cancer, and the bladder must be removed. Traditionally, this procedure involved the creation of an external urinary diversion or urostomy, forcing the patient to live with an external urine bag. Thanks to advances in robotic surgery, we now offer more sophisticated and less invasive solutions.
Our state-of-the-art robotic surgery system, Medtronic's Hugo RAS, allows us to perform procedures with unmatched precision and control, significantly reducing complications and improving postoperative outcomes.
Benefits of robotic surgery in the treatment of bladder cancer:
Robotic technology allows for smaller and more precise incisions, resulting in less postoperative pain and faster recovery.
The creation of neobladders allows patients to maintain a more natural urinary function, avoiding the need for an external urostomy bag.
The precision of robotic surgery minimizes the risk of complications, such as infection and bleeding, providing a safer and more efficient recovery.

The creation of neobladders is a revolutionary advance in the treatment of bladder cancer. This procedure involves the reconstruction of a new bladder from part of the patient's bowel, allowing for more natural urination and significantly improving quality of life. Scientific studies have shown that patients who do not require an external urine bag experience improved self-esteem and quality of life.
Thanks to robotic surgery, we can perform this technique with greater precision, reducing side effects and increasing success rates, thus providing an effective and reliable solution for our patients.
