Trichomoniasis
Trichomoniasis is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the parasite Trichomonas vaginalis.
Symptoms: This infection may be asymptomatic or cause urethritis or vaginitis. In women, there is usually abnormal vaginal discharge, itching and irritation in the vulvar and vaginal area, or even burning when urinating. Men are usually asymptomatic and sometimes present with abnormal penile discharge and discomfort when urinating.
Diagnosis: It is based on fresh microscopic examination and direct observation of the parasite. Antigen detection with test strips, culture of urine or urethral secretions and nucleic acid detection (PCR) are also used.
TreatmentTrichomonas infection has a comfortable and very effective oral and vaginal treatment. There are different antifungals that we can use.
