Genital herpes
Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV). There are two types, HSV-1 and HSV-2.
Between 3 days and 3 weeks pass from the sexual contact. Prior to the appearance of the typical lesions, which are small painful vesicles, there may be discomfort, pain or a burning sensation over the affected area. The severity of symptoms varies from patient to patient. Some do not manifest symptoms and others do so in situations of lowered defense due to illness or stress.
Diagnosis: Visual examination by a specialist and, if appropriate, take a sample for confirmation (PCR) or blood test for antibodies.
Whenever we find a sexually transmitted disease, we always advise testing for the rest because of the increased risk.
Treatments: There is currently no treatment that can cure herpes, but there are antiviral medications that prevent and can shorten the duration of outbreaks
